Schedule Your Test

To schedule a COVID 19 RT PCR test done by a nasopharyngeal swab, please send an email request to info@ourkidsmd.com with the subject line 'COVID-19 PCR test'

What is this Test?

We use the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, also called nucleic acid amplification tests (NAAT). In PCR testing, a machine located in a laboratory that we use and trust, runs a series of reactions. These reactions first convert the virus’s ribonucleic acid (RNA), if present, into deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and then amplify it (make millions of copies of the DNA); the test then detects this DNA. By running multiple amplification cycles, a PCR test can sense even low levels of viral genetic material in a patient’s sample, so these tests tend to be highly sensitive.

How do we collect the sample?

Currently, we use a Nasal/nasopharyngeal swab to obtain the sample to send to the lab. If other methods become available, we may consider using them.

How accurate is the test?

No test is 100% accurate. This test is typically highly accurate and usually does not need to be repeated.

How long will it take to get the test result?

Typically, we get the results back within 48 hours. Occasionally, depending on how busy the lab is, this can be 24 hours earlier or later.
